'RoboCop' Gets An Adversary And A Wife

I regret nothing.

Now that Hugh Laurie’s run — oops, limping walk — on House has come to an end, we’ll hopefully get to see him play a sarcastic jerk in more movies. To that end, he’s in talks to play the evil CEO of Omni Corp (a character originally played by Ronny Cox) in MGM’s remake of RoboCop. In addition, Abbie Cornish (Sucker Punch) is in talks to play RoboCop’s wife, who does not know her husband is still alive. They’ll be joining a cast which includes Gary Oldman, Samuel L. Jackson, and Joel Kinnaman. Variety offers a bit of new information:

Laurie is making a deal to play the villainous CEO of Omni Corp, which creates the title character for its own gain. Gary Oldman is set to co-star as the scientist who creates him, while Abbie Cornish will play his conflicted wife. Samuel L. Jackson has also signed on to play a patriotic media mogul. [Variety]

We already knew Jackson was playing a media mogul, but the “patriotic” part puts a new spin on it. We’d buy that for a dollar. Director José Padilha will likely start filming in Toronto this fall with a release date currently set for August 9th, 2013.

We’re hoping Hugh Laurie can sign on for the villain role, but if that doesn’t work out, he’s always got that balloon doggy talent to fall back on:

Amazing.
