Another ‘Star Wars’ Alum Has A Cameo In ‘Rogue One’ To Bridge The Gap From The Prequels

Take just a minute, won’t you, to think about all your favorite characters and actors from the Star Wars canon. The original three, Luke, Leia, and Han, followed closely by Natalie Portman, Ewan McGregor, and Hayden Christensen…well, maybe not that last one.

Okay, now here’s an exercise. How many of you thought of Jimmy Smits? It’s all right, you can speak up. Because Smits, who played Bail Organa in Episodes II and III, is coming back! That’s right, your favorite NYPD Blue leading man (sorry, Caruso) who got in on the Star Wars act playing the adoptive father of Leia in Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith, will appear in this Christmas’s Rogue One.

Appearing on Friday’s episode of The Talk, Smits indeed confirmed his presence in the upcoming precursor to A New Hope. “Can you say the word, ‘cameo?'” he inquired of the hosts. “Can you say the words ‘small part?'”

Smits has carved out a fair, little niche for himself in the Star Wars universe. In addition to his role in those two George Lucas-prequels, he also voiced Bail Organa in the 2008 video game Star Wars: The Force Unleashed. Feels like a good gig between smoldering TV cop dramas, it would seem.

Bail Organa isn’t the only character from previous installments in the franchise to show up in Rogue One. Perhaps you’ve heard of a guy most commonly known as Darth Vader? See them both when Rogue One: A Star Wars Story hits theaters on December 16.
