Why You Shouldn’t Believe The New ‘Star Wars: Episode VIII’ Rumors About Rey’s Parents And Origin

Warning: The following post probably doesn’t contain Star Wars: Episode VIII spoilers, but you never know. Anything is possible!

Every new Star Wars movie is, of course, the subject of plenty of feverish speculation, and the latest rumors circulating around Star Wars: Episode VIII are some real doozies. The rumors, which have been re-posted by a variety or usually reputably news sites, basically state that Rey is not Luke Skywalker’s daughter, but The One, a reincarnation of the original Jedi whose soul was trapped in an ancient tree for ages. Of course, Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader was also thought to be The One, but Rey is apparently the real deal.

Quite the bombshell! Just one problem – it’s almost certainly made up. The original source of the rumor seems to be Star Wars superfan” Stormtrooper Larry, who got the information from a leaked script fragment provided by another Star Wars fan known as Ky10Rey, who disappeared from the Internet after these rumors started going viral. Yeesh, we’re already on shaky ground here.

Here’s the supposed leaked script page…

Yeah, that definitely isn’t the real deal. That page in no way resembles an actual movie script, and reads like pure fan fiction. I mean, what the hell is Yoda doing there? “Rey, take my hand, this will feel a little weird”? Come on. So, is there any truth to any of this? Well, fans spying on the Episode VIII sets have glimpsed a big, strange tree-like structure, which is probably what set off this imaginative bit of rumor mongering.

Could Stormtrooper Larry and company have stumbled on something close to Episode VIII‘s real story? Maybe, but probably not because they have any inside information. As always, if a rumor sounds too good to be true, consider the source.
