Here’s The Surprising Way Oscar Isaac Saved Poe Dameron From Death In ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’

Poe Dameron was never supposed to make it out of Star Wars: The Force Awakens alive. But, as we all know, he does, and it turns out we have Oscar Isaac to thank. Not because he campaigned for his character, but, it turns out, just because he idly mentioned an annoyance to J.J. Abrams.

It turns out Isaac was not a fan of how his characters had checked out in the last few movies he’d done, especially as several had died early on, and was hoping he wouldn’t have his ticket punched yet again. Abrams thought he had a point and figured out a way for Dameron to survive, thus laying the groundwork for all sorts of rumors about Episode VIII. Of course, it would have been nice for us to see how, exactly, he survived but we guess they have to save that for a later movie.

Considering how easily directors can just ignore actors most of the time, it’s a classy touch by Abrams to go out of his way and address an annoyance for Isaac. Of course, the fact that Oscar Isaac might be, scientifically, the most charming human being on the planet likely helped, but if you’ve got it, flaunt it.
