Jared Leto Was Hardly The Weirdest Cast Member On The ‘Suicide Squad’ Set

When it comes to the promotion of Suicide Squad, the main idea the cast and crew have worked to get across is that they are all a little unhinged. It’s going to help the movie along and it’s going to pique the curiosity of fans — especially those concerned with Jared Leto’s portrayal of The Joker. The stories about Leto going meta, sending cast mates dead rats, never dropping character, and several other “sick and twisted” acts have controlled the talk about this film.

But, as we saw on Conan‘s big Comic-Con sit down with the cast of Suicide Squad, he was far from the craziest person on the set. Everybody seems to have had their little bouts of random insanity while filming or they’ve been pushed to a point where they have to show a little bit of their wild side.

David Ayer himself seems to be the one who is a little loose according to the cast and he was walking around just randomly cutting everybody’s hair, having flashbacks to his days in the Navy. No word on if he helped shave all of Jared Leto’s hair off, but it’s possible.

Ayer also helped Viola Davis channel the mindset she needed for Amanda Waller, putting some words in her ear like Grima Wormtongue so she could properly handle Joel Kinnaman’s Rick Flag. Will Smith also apparently found a calming way to handle Kinnaman and the other members of the cast who couldn’t handle the cold. For the record, Smith still seems like Mr. Positivity and it makes sense that’d he would be the member of the cast who isn’t acting full on crazy during filming.

Then we learn that Ayer gave Cara Delevingne a little advice on how to channel Enchantress, telling her to strip down and get naked in the woods during a full moon. Typical behavior for a model, though, so he was wasting his time. You don’t have sex on a plane — or several planes — and somehow need advice on being free with things.

And finally we get to poor Jay Hernandez and his face tattoos. There’s not much to say here besides the fact that it is mean to tell someone their hair isn’t going to grow back after they shave it all off. If that happened, though, you would hope he’d keep the face tattoos. Just start a new life in the carnival.

Obviously the lesson from Suicide Squad is to keep David Ayer away from your hair.
