Harley Quinn Reportedly Isn’t The Only One Getting A ‘Suicide Squad’ Spin-Off

David Ayer’s Suicide Squad is already on track to have an R-rated sequel and a Harley Quinn spin-off produced by and starring Margot Robbie, as it seems Warner is now focusing on Suicide Squad as part of their behind the scenes shake-ups following Batman V Superman‘s lower-than-expected box office gross. Suicide Squad is reportedly testing well with audiences, so Warner seems to be banking on expanding upon its success. (Then again, Batman V Superman garnered great early reactions, so no sequels or spin-offs are completely guaranteed.)

If Suicide Squad does become a hit, however, who’s getting a spin-off besides Harley? According to a source at We Got This Covered, The Joker and Captain Boomerang may prove popular enough for spin-offs.

“I’ve heard more than a few talks of giving some of the other Task Force X members their own spinoffs, and like the Harley Quinn one, these films would open the door for a ton of new DC characters to show up.

“The Joker is a definite possibility for a spinoff, and Jared [Leto] seems up for it from what I’ve been told. They’re also really hot on Jai Courtney’s character Boomerang right now. Nothing’s set in stone yet, but you’re definitely going to be seeing a lot more of these guys in the years to come.”

If you asked us which characters would have been poised for a spin-off, we wouldn’t have picked the guy who sent anal beads to coworkers and answered only to “Mr. J” while never breaking character between scenes, nor would we have picked the guy based on a character so silly on its face that even the Aussie dude playing him admits he “kind of cringed” when he heard he’d be playing the Captain of the Boomerangs. But hey, a Joker movie will at least give us plenty of crazy set stories to write about, and a Captain Boomerang movie — if set in his home country of Australia — is the odds-on favorite to have a giant spider in the third act.
