The Latest ‘Batman: Arkham Knight’ Trailer Reveals A Bunch Of New Characters

Come June 23, millions are likely calling in sick to play Batman: Arkham Knight. Really, almost everyone with a current console is sold on this game. But why not try to sell them a little more, by revealing you can team up with various heroes over the course of the game?

This new trailer, leaked early and found by PC Gamer, features Nightwing, Robin, Catwoman, and Azrael, that last not surprising if you finished his sidequest in Arkham City. What is surprising is that these won’t be multiplayer character models, but actual AI characters you can team up with over the course of the game; the various stunts you see in the trailer are part of a “dual play” mechanic where you can jump to the other hero to vary up your beatdowns at any time, or work together for a super-takedown. Co-op does not, at the moment, appear to be part of the plan.

That said, we kind of wish Robin still had the hood. With the buzz cut he just looks way too much like Chris O’Donnell for comfort.

This does raise the question of why you’d bother playing anybody other than Batman, but, by the same token, it’s nice to see the fighting will be a little more varied than: “Occasionally, you drive a car around the city like a maniac.” Not that we’re against driving around Gotham and disregarding traffic laws, especially since the Batmobile appears to also be part of the Batwing, but variety is the spice of life.
