The Cast Of ‘The Mummy’ Reboot Has Finally Been Confirmed

It’s been strongly rumored for a while, but now it has been confirmed — Tom Cruise will officially become the new Brendan Fraser when he stars in a reboot of The Mummy. Sofia Boutella, who you might remember as the knife-legged Gazelle from Kingsman: The Secret Service, will also star in the upcoming remake. Boutella will play the movie’s surprisingly vivacious Mummy, while Cruise will presumably take the role of the white guy who must stop her malicious mummy machinations.

Aside from those basics, we really don’t know too much about the plot of The Mummy — other than it will be set in the present day rather than in the early 20th century like the Fraser movies. The Mummy will be the first big movie directed by Alex Kurtzman (the blockbuster-writing computer behind everything from Star Trek and Transformers, to Mission Impossible) from a script by Jon Spaihts (Prometheus, Doctor Strange).

In addition to the confirmed casting, the release date for The Mummy has shifted a bit. It was originally slated for a March 2017 release, but the movie has risen from its tomb and shambled toward a new June 9, 2017 release. I’ll admit, I have a soft spot for the old Brendan Fraser Mummy movies, and somehow I usually end up liking most Tom Cruise stuff, so I’m moderately interested in this reboot. What about you folks? Do you love your Mummy movies, or is it time this series wrapped it up? (Sorry.)
