As was announced a couple months back, the next “season” of Telltale’s The Walking Dead games will star the ultimate sword-swinging, zombie dispatching badass, Michonne, and at The Game Awards 2015 we finally got a first look at this new Walking Dead series. The Walking Dead: Michonne will tie in with the comic books more directly than past Telltale games, telling the story of why Michonne left Rick’s group between issues #126 – #139, and why she eventually decided to return. Also, based on the debut trailer, it looks like the series will be dealing with her mysterious past before she met up with Rick and his group. A note for those who might be confused: Michonne has a somewhat different backstory in the comics than she does in the television show. On TV, she had a son before the zombie apocalypse, while in the comics she had two daughters, hence the two girls in the trailer.
Both the comics and the TV series have been very tight-lipped about Michonne’s past, so it will be interesting to see how deep Telltale’s games is allowed to go. The Walking Dead: Michonne will debut February 2016, and run for three episodes.
