Tom Hardy Did Not Quit ‘Suicide Squad’ Happily

Tom Hardy was going to return to the DC cinematic universe in Suicide Squad until shooting on The Revenant ran far, far over. And Hardy is making no secret about how upset he is that he missed out.

Although it does sound a bit more like he was upset about losing a sweet paycheck than he was about being Rick Flagg, if this Variety interview is to be believed:

Was I bummed? Of course I was. I hate fucking losing work. I kept bemoaning that they were losing me significant money on a daily basis. Actually, it was good for my character.

Then again, Hardy also relates how Alejandro Iñárritu’s shooting schedule made for long days, as the movie was entirely shot with natural light. So, the cast rehearsed for eight solid hours and then had an hour and a half or so to get the shot, and if they screwed up, they had to do it all over again the next day. Which is more or less a blatant ploy for Oscars, as our own Mike Ryan pointed out, but at least it looks cool.

Hardy will get his shot at the DCU anyway, though: He’s producing and possibly starring in an adaptation of 100 Bullets. Hopefully it comes with a sweet paycheck.
