We’ve been wanting to see a Wonder Woman movie or series for a long time, but Warner and DC have a lot of trouble making that happen. David E. Kelley’s TV show about the Amazonian badass failed for obvious reasons, the foremost being that it was more about lawyers than it was about Amazons. The CW was also casting a Wonder Woman show called Amazon, but that was put on hold despite the success of Arrow. We’ll just have to hope that Batman Versus Superman rumor proves true.
While we keep waiting for the first Wonder Woman tentpole film (Batman already has eight and Superman has six, but who’s counting?), fans have made their own short films. Earlier this year, we enjoyed watching Wonder Woman beat up Nazis in a fan film. Now another fan film has come along, directed by Sam Balcomb of Rainfall Films and starring Rileah Vanderbilt.
Whether you like, or dislike, our live action interpretation of Diana of Themyscira, Wonder Woman, born of clay, I think (quite a few of) you will agree she is a character just as vital and crucial to our understanding of humanity as any other superhero… if not more so.
We spent the majority of 2013 working on this — the look, the feel, the aspects we most wanted to portray. It’s a scant two and half minutes, but in the end, it’s one hundred and fifty seconds of pure fantasy, where I get to consider the two sides of my favorite warrior: a crusader in man’s world, and a paragon of virtue told through Greek mythology. This version of the story has a sword and sandals, Zack Snyder sort of vibe. That’s not the style I’m into, but at least it demonstrates a Wonder Woman film is already in a couple of recognizable genres.
