Charles Barkley Ripped The ‘Babies’ In The NBA Who Want More Rest Between Games

Charles Barkley is on the same side as all the other Olds that once played in the NBA. The latest generation of NBA stars are lazy, lack grit and are just generally whiny, at least that’s what all the retired players think. Barkley reiterated that point on Wednesday when he was asked about players wanting more time to rest during the NBA season.

Because every generation is compared to those that came before them, it’s inevitable that players wanting more time between games to be looked down upon.

But rather than say the players are taking advantage of the leverage they have over their corporate overlords are praise the power of the NBPA, the default response from elderly basketball players is almost always that they could put a good thumpin’ on the stars of today.

Eddie Sefko covered the SMU athletics forum on Tuesday, where Barkley was speaking on just about anything that came up.

The Round Mound of Opinions was asked about potentially expanding the NBA regular season to allow for more time between games in an effort to eliminate resting healthy players, something that’s been a topic of discussion often the last two seasons. Barkley was sufficiently sarcastic in his response.

“I want to commend the NBA,” Barkley said. “You know, these poor babies can’t play back-to-back games.” He then mentioned, of course, the amount of money these players make per season.

“We want to make it convenient for them,” Barkley said. “At $40 million a year, we can’t stress ‘em out.”

It make for good headlines, sure, but it’s a typical miscalculation you see when the old and supposedly wise come down to judge the young and supposedly greedy. If the Youths ask for a right the Olds never had, it’s not only unnecessary, it’s simply a sign that old people rule and young people drool.
