‘Game Of Thrones’ Season 8 Will Reportedly Begin In An Unexpected Location

HBO

With a mere six episodes left, Game of Thrones season eight will likely be set in familiar settings: Winterfell, King’s Landing, the Wall (at least what’s left of it). There’s very little time left for wandering and day trips to Pentos. But according to reports, the season’s first scene takes place in an unexpected locale.

A “little bird” told Watchers on the Wall that “the show is largely filming at Moneyglass [Ireland] this week, the estate in Toome that hosts the exterior and courtyard of Winterfell set.” But the scene isn’t set in Winterfell. “The most interesting details are this: they say it was for the opening scene of the season, and takes place in Winter town, the settled area outside Winterfell. The town is home to the smallfolk who look to House Stark for protection, and will likely need help from Winterfell more than ever with the White Walkers moving south.” (The speculation also notes that David Nutter, who directed season three’s “The Rains of Castamere” and was tapped to helm episodes one, two, and four of the final season, has been spotted on set this week.)

We last saw Winter town in season five — it’s where Brienne and Podrick found lodging while waiting for Sansa’s candle — but it’s also the home of the brothel that Tyrion visits in the first episode of the series. (Poor Ros.) With the White Walkers moving ever closer, the bordello patrons better have their fun now.
