A Long-Missing ‘Game Of Thrones’ Character Has Been Spotted On Set

[Potential spoilers for Game of Thrones season seven]

Yesterday, our own Dustin Rowles argued that The Walking Dead‘s cliffhanger offseason was a success. “It gave fans something to talk about in between seasons,” he wrote. “Our speculation may have been tinged with anger for the first couple of months, but now The Walking Dead fans genuinely have something to look forward to.” Rowles compared the gamble to what happened on Game of Thrones, when “do you think Jon Snow is dead or alive?” became as culturally ubiquitous as asking about the weather. “This season, there’s far less chatter surrounding the series, because last season’s finale didn’t leave us with an open question as compelling as Jon Snow’s fate.” Speak for yourself: someone clearly hasn’t been following #GendryWatch.

Gendry, the Poochie of Game of Thrones (“Whenever Gendry’s not on screen, all the other characters should be asking, where’s Gendry?”), hasn’t been seen since the season three finale, leading viewers to wonder what happened to the Baratheon bastard. It looks like we’ll finally get an answer in season seven. In September, actor Joe Dempsie was recognized in Belfast, Ireland, where next season is filming, and now he’s been spotted on set in Spain.

“Gendry is back in the story after a three-season absence,” Watchers on the Wall reports, “and surprisingly he will return to the place we saw him last: Dragonstone.” That’s where Davos helped him escape from the leech-sucking clutches of Melisandre. He was supposed to head back to King’s Landing, but I like to imagine that Gendry’s been rowing in a giant circle this whole time.

What a (friendless) jerk.
