In yet another truly sad moment in an already sad year that has been 2016, legendary comedian and actor Gene Wilder’s passing has hit everyone pretty hard. Wilder’s work spanned decades and not only enthralled audiences, but also his contemporaries and co-stars. Now, another of Wilder’s friends has spoken publicly about the tremendous loss of Gene Wilder, by the way of Woman in Red co-star Kelly Le Brock.
Le Brock talked about her dearly departed friend to The Hollywood Reporter, remembering how Wilder was both on- and off-screen.
“He was very different off-screen. He was the funny man on-screen but in reality, he wasn’t funny. He was very quiet and kind of shy. He’d get very demonstrative telling a story — that’s when you’d see him come alive.”
Her memories of Wilder were perhaps not best reflected in those boisterous, memorable performances that he gave, but instead the more quieter moments. She remembered Wilder not as a larger-than-life character, but a quiet guy who loved his life, but not without regrets.
“But the Gene that I knew and that I loved was quiet. He loved his meals and his wine. He loved Europe. He loved writing. He was happy being in Connecticut in the house that he and Gilda lived in. But he was bitter in some places, certainly. About his childhood, about losing Gilda. I think he would have liked to have had children with Gilda. They tried very hard. That was a source of sadness.”
Le Brock joins a long list of celebrities who have publicly discussed their relationships with Wilder after his passing from complications of Alzheimer’s disease.
