Goldberg Is Hosting A Reality Competition Show Called ‘Knife Or Death’

Bill Goldberg is a man of many talents. Some of those talents include delivering countless spears and jackhammers to Jerry Lynn and Hugh Morrus, as Brandon Stroud has been lovingly cataloging in his Best And Worst Of WCW Monday Nitro column.

But Goldberg is not just a (probably) retired pro wrestler and impending WWE Hall Of Famer. He also an actor, with a number of TV and movie roles under his belt, most recently as a guest on two episodes of CW show The Flash as well as playing Coach Nick on ABC series The Goldbergs. (Irony, thy name is broadcast television.)

One thing Goldberg’s not had a ton of experience in, however, is being a TV host, having only previously been the host for the car-racing reality show Bull Run in 2007. But all that will change later this month with the premiere of Forged In Fire: Knife Or Death, a new competition series on the History Channel.

Basically, a bunch of people make their own knives and then use them to chop sh*t in half on an obstacle course. The winner gets $20,000 (presumably in cash and not in a gift certificate to that weird sword store in the mall, but you never know). Just watch the trailer, y’all:

Goldberg had this to say about the show and his role as host, to TV Insider:

“I think everyone is going to have someone to cheer for. A lot of demographics are represented. You’ll instantly have a built-in favorite or nemesis or someone to cheer for or against. You can’t help but be emotionally invested … My position is to create excitement bigger than life and have a rudimentary background to what I’m watching. That I have. Each day and each episode, each minute of filming I get to learn more and more and be more in-depth to what I’m talking about. I do have the rudimentary knowledge to at least pull it off in the beginning. From the first to the third to the sixth episode, my knowledge grew exponentially. It was right in the wheelhouse, and I was having a great time.”

Creating larger-than-life excitement while only having a rudimentary background in the artform? Friends, if that doesn’t scream Bill Goldberg, I don’t know what does.

Forged In Fire: Knife Or Death will premiere April 17 at 10 p.m. ET on the History Channel.
