The Warriors Saved Oakland A Chance The Rapper Concert By Sweeping The Blazers

The Golden State Warriors continued their march towards a second NBA championship in three years on Monday night when they completed a dominant sweep of the Portland Trail Blazers in the first round of the playoffs. For a city that will be losing its NFL team very soon, and could very well lose its Major League Baseball team as well, the Warriors are the best show in town for sports fans in Oakland — until they jump across the Bay to San Francisco in 2019. Their basketball prowess delights the hometown fans, but it may have also saved the city an entertaining night in another forum as well. Golden State’s Game 4 victory opened up the schedule in their home arena The Oracle, thus allowing Grammy-conquering rapper Chance The Rapper to keep the Oakland date of his summer tour this week.

When the NBA announced their playoff schedule, many noticed that the potential Game 5 of the Warriors opening series conflicted with the Oakland date of Chance’s tour and began wondering what would happen in the event that a fifth game was necessary. The Warriors quickly nipped that in the bud by releasing a statement saying, in short “The Warriors will have the priority on April 26th.”

That fact was not lost on the Blazers Twitter account, who not only stood in awe of the Warriors incredible start to the game, but also took the time to offer a little hat tip to Chance about the show he was now free to do.

To his credit, Chance was a good sport about the whole thing, offering the Blazers the always solid “maybe next year guys!”

So, after kicking the tour off in San Diego on Monday night, Chance will take his show on the road to Oakland as planned, thanks to the Dubs and their dominance.
