Missy Elliott Graced A Remix Of Amine’s Urgent And Disorienting Single ‘Redmercedes’

Amine has been riding a truly impressive wave ever since he hit the scene last year with his breakthrough single “Caroline.” That song exceeded nearly everyone’s expectations and hit No. 11 on the Billboard Hot 100. Looking to capitalize on that success, the Portland rapper dropped another single “REDMERCEDES” earlier this year and today shared a remix of that particular song with a brand new feature from the legendary Missy Elliott.

“REDMERCEDES” is a disorienting, siren-filled banger that in some ways brings to mind the sonic template of Missy’s 2002 hit “Work It.” Keeping in line with the song’s automotive theme, Missy raps, “Got a new beam, new whip / Doors sit up like a facelift / Sub in my trunk go apeshit / Rims spinning round like a spaceship / I see money, I’ma chase it / Ask them suckers why they always hating / Maybe cause your man wanna taste it.” In addition to Elliott, the remix gets a bit of U.K. grime flavoring thanks to a verse from the up-and-coming AJ Tracey.

Amine’s latest work is an admirable follow-up to his breakthrough hit. He’s clearly someone who has grand visions about music, and his work bears that out. “The first time I heard the name ‘Caroline’ was in OutKast’s ‘Roses,’ so that was definitely an influence on me in general,” he told Genius about that single’s creation. “I wrote this song with the intentions of hopefully making a modern day ‘Billie Jean.'”
