Watch Chance The Rapper And A Gospel Choir Take Over ‘The Tonight Show’ For ‘Blessings (Reprise)’

Chance The Rapper is a phenomen. Aside from showing up for the best track on Life Of Pablo, possibly doing an entire joint album with Kanye, throwing his own festival, and touring behind his fantastic new mixtape Coloring Book, Chance still manages to make a late night performance feel like an event.

Enlisting some of his favorite collaborators for a stint on Jimmy Fallon tonight, Chance brought the house down with a performance of “Blessings (Reprise).” Flanked by Ty Dolla $ign (who was strumming), Virginia beach R&B-and-crooning powerhouse D.R.A.M., Raury, and Anthony Hamilton, the young Chicago MC rapped the track with passionate hand gestures before walking out toward the audience and summoning a full gospel choir to come down through the crowd and join him. It’s one of the most creative late night performances I’ve seen in a minute, and a breath of fresh air considering how overcrowded and rote these clips can be these days.

No wonder everybody wants to work with Chance The Rapper — he makes working in the music industry seem fun and magical again, he venerates the process of making and performing music in a way that’s rarely seen in the apathetic, ennui-laced year of 2016. Maybe we can all learn something from his young wisdom and passionate joy. In his tweets prior to the performance Chance used the hashtag #BlackBoyJoy, and that’s never been on display more clearly. Watch above, look for your miracle.
