Drake is going to be the man to beat at this year’s BET Hip-Hop Awards. The Canadian MC has a mind-boggling 14 award nominations, including “Album of the Year,” “Best Live Performer,” “Lyricist of the Year,” and more. The awards follow a flurry of activity from the incredible success of his Views album, which dominated the top spot on Billboard and broke multiple streaming records.
Drake finds himself in familiar company with the other leading nominees. Future, DJ Khaled, and Yeezy have multiple nominations as well–Future with 10 nods, Khaled at nine, and Kanye with eight. As the industry veterans battle it out for supremacy there’s another category that night which will equally, if not more so, competitive. This year has seen a number of new artists rise to prominence as evidenced by Anderson .Paak, Bryson Tiller, Chance the Rapper, Desiigner, and Tory Lanez, all of whom will be competing in the “Best New Artist” category.
The BET Hip-Hop Awards is scheduled for October 4th at 8 p.m. but will be recorded almost a full month before that on September 17th at Atlanta’s Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre. A host has not yet been selected for the event. The entire list of nominees can be found here.
