When Gucci Mane got out of jail back in May, the rap world went nuts. With ATL’s urban legend out of the binger, everyone knew Big Gucci was going to come out more on point than ever before, from every angle. In turn, that’s exactly what happened, as all of Guwop’s clones got squashed and his proteges wound up flourishing alongside the man himself.

That forward energy is now being channeled via Big Gucci’s first televised performance since being released, thanks to the 2016 BET Hip-Hop Awards. The award show is already having it’s moments, but this one feels more massive than most, as many performers on the show tonight publicly acknowledge the Brick Squad leader directly influenced their careers.

Between Young Thug, 21 Savage, Quavo and even T.I., half the acts rep for Gucci and that’s exactly why the jewel-draped audience went extra hard when their contemporary idol hit the stage in a monstrous mink and dropped “First Day Out Da Feds” and “Last Time” with Travis Scott. Then, because he ushers in the new wave, “Pick Up The Phone” started up, Young Thug came out in leather and the place went nuts. That’s the Gucci effect, y’all.
