Key Wane Taps Royce Da 5’9″ To Show He’s A ‘Carefree Black Man’

Key Wane and Royce recently got together in the studio to create “Carefree Black Man.” Key Wane, well known for his work with Big Sean, crafts an electric mix of thumping bass, haunting voices, and soulful instrumentation. It might not sound like all of these things should work together but I can attest that the results sound far better than it does on paper.

Key Wane pulled double duty on this one as he opens up the song with a verse of his own. To be honest, it sounds like Wane could probably use a little more work with the pen. It’s not that his portion of the song was terrible inasmuch as it doesn’t shine as brightly as the guest feature. Royce Da 5’9″ easily dominates the beat, however, with his patented off-kilter flow that manages to sound like it’s running all over the place but managing to still stay in rhythm.

“I been independent since they tried to put me in the penitention, I was innocent
I spent hours in the pen, I spent hours with the pen,
I spent hours top of hours to make sure we stay on top of ours
Like the number 12
A whole lotta everything is what I’m peddling is what I come to sell
I’m in love with being on fire, I am what you call a fucking fire addict
Roll up on you while you’re in the drive thru just so I can take ya tires”

Royce’s delivery is A+ on this one and he does well to serve up a quality verse that fans of his know and love.  No word on where this shows up as it was a SoundCloud release but this might be a hint that Key Wane is working on a solo project of sorts.
