Does the label or the fans control the quality of music that is out?
FANS ALL DAY …. labels give the little 15 y/o girls what they want !!
Well he’s absolutely right, I mean just look at the artist whoa are the killing it right now Rick ross, lil wayne, gucci mane, waka, drake, souljah boy, lil boosie
they are all just wack rappers, its like the only good rappers are underground such as Diabolic or Immortal Technique!
Fans control it. What the majority supports is what everyone is gonna get. Its not the label’s fault cause they just do what they have to do to make money.
this is what i been telling everyone for a while now!!
it’s not the label choosing,it’s the fans that the demand the music
if you want your “real hip hop” back start supporting it like little girls do with rihanna, katy perry, eminem etc..
Both. Looking at 106 & park, now compared to 6 years ago.
lupe said so much with “dumb it down” which is what a lot of kids proclaimed current favorite artists right now do. gucci, lil wayne, drake, wacka do. party, party lets all get wasted.
i’m 26 & my cousin is 18, we got into a agruement cause i told my lil brother to turn down a crappy wayne song while we were playing video games. actually i said “turn that garbage down” my cousin was like wayne is the truth, i looked at him like at what point did rap music just nose dive to where so many people think wayne is the best rapper ever.
some of it is on the label, some is on us as fans.
rap is the biggest loser in this, cause rnb even tho, it isn’t what it was, at a time when r.kelly, boyz ii men, joe, ginuwine, usher , & etc were at there peak, RAP HAS FALLEN OFF HORRIBLY IN YEARS, YA’LL KNOW I’M RIGHT, THAT PERIOD FROM ABOUT 95-2004 WIL NOT BE BEAT EVER. THE DMX’S, HUNGRY JAY-Z, B.I.G., PAC’S, EVERYBODY WAS ON IT THEN.
NOT JUS RAP, BUT MUSIC PERIOD.
NOWADAYS IT’S JUST ANOTHER MANUFACUTERD HIT THAT INDUSTRY PUTS OUT & WANTS TO CONTROL.
1. IN SHORT IT’S LIKE THIS. THE COMPANY PUTS OUT A DANCE SONG, RELEASE IT, KIDS IT UP, IT’S ALL OVER YOUTUBE.
2. NEXT THANG YOU KNOW, ANOTHER LABEL OR ARTIST SEES THIS & SAYS WE CAN DO THAT TOO, & IT MUST BE WHAT THE PUBLIC WANTS, SO LET’S DO IT TOO. PARTY RECORDS, NO SUBSTANCE.
DANG, I TYPED A BOOK, I GET LONG WINDED ON TOPICS LIKE THIS.
It is three heads…the fans demand, the labels and what you as an artist negotiates. How was Kanye on Rocafella allowed to put out College Dropout? Because of LEVERAGE. he was a great beat maker so that was his leverage to do wat he wanted. if u are a dumb artist who signs his artistic abilities away just to be on a label that is YOUR fault. the fans can demand whatever they want and the labels/radio move on that. at the end of the day labels and radio are publically owned companies trying to make $ for their investors. if u beat boxing over polka would go platinum they would put it out and mimic it until it became annoying. that is how they work.
it’s like we seen this story before….
Another Rapper turns against the industry and blaming it for not being able to put out music..
@napoleon… i totally agree with you…im 27 and my cuz are 14 and 17 and the hip hop they listen to is fuckin garbage and they have the nuts to say “yo that 90’s shit it so wack,,,they all talkin bout the struggle and blablbla”
Guys WAYNE is fuckin HORRRRRRRRRRIBLE and so is gucci and so is wakka kaka and so is soulja
its like the industry brain washed everyone !
Yo thats why Jay says i fuck with indy … cuz indy music wheter you like it or not, is in the same space rap was between 94-2001 …. artist are just putting ALL their heart into making the best ART possible…giving their life to succeed
where as rap is established and has sooooo much power that when a rapper says IM THE FLYEST he doesnt have to prove himself anymore….all the kids believe him !!
I’ts not about “what the fans like”. It’s the labels who assume certain type of artist will sell more, so at the end of the day the labels sign and put out the music they think are going to sell.
I’m postive that if he labels would take some risks and start signing better artists that it would sell.
I like the fact that Drake is doing fine cause you better believe that now labels are going to look for similar artist.
oh stop cryin dont no1 wanna hear dat boring ass deep intellectal shit no mo dat aint whats gettin money dat aint whats sellin records
get wit it or get lost ya digggggggggggg
Let’s be honest, people like to gravitate to what’s popular (or marketed to be be perceived as popular.) Yes the consumer has power on what to buy and support but most of the time, they are going off of what’s presented to them. Unless you’re a real music head, you’re not searching blogs and the net looking for artists. 106 and Park, basically the only place that shows music videos, has a set list of videos you choose from to make it appear that fans have control. But the videos are already picked for you to choose from. All you have to do is click. I think blaming fans for bullshit music coming out is true in some aspects, but is mostly a cop out.
Lupe is absolutely right…it’s all about supply and demand. If the fans demand bullshit music….that is exactly what the label is gone to supply them with! So what the fans demand and what the label supply go hand and hand! The people who object to this are the guilty culprits!
it is just like politics…people bitch and complain but nothing changes even though millions of people have the same thoughts. i respect RADIOHEAD cause they asked u the fan to pay what you thought u should pay for their album. even with that i still paid $10 for it.
it doesn’t take that much to explain this ..take this for example , a southern artist drops a catchy tune called “make them dance” and it becomes an instant hit, getting a lot of radio play and airplay and who’s fault is that? the fans for demanding it, so record labels sees this and how successful it became so they wanna duplicate it so they force there artist to put out something similar to it to generate the same buzz..so to answer your question it’s both.
Lupe sorta has a point. Labels put out what they think they’ll profit from. Money won’t go into promotion and the number of singles is limited, etc.
I really find rap to be the genre with fans that refuse to grow up. It’s like eff’ing middle school. I’m tired of everyone talking more about “Officer Ricky” or who’s Snitching, in the Illuminati, etc. For once, I’d like to go to a blog and have people have discussion on lyrics and who people should check out.
Top Rap Albums of 2009 according to Billboard Top 100 sales in the US:
(7)BEP’s The E.N.D. (most of y’all won’t count as hip hop)
(51)Kanye’s 808s(again most won’t count)
(58)TI’s Paper Trail
(71)Weezy ThaC3 (still selling from 2008)
(88)Rick Ross DTR
That’s a sad state in rap because if numbers translate to what’s hot/ quality; there were only 5 (maybe 7) hot albums out last year, one of which was released in 2008 compared to every other genre?
My point. Start buying what you like instead of downloading, start having real dialogue in the comments on blogs, or stop b!tching about numbers. I don’t really care about numbers, I buy what I like so whether my favorite rapper goes Platinum or Wood, I’m still good. =/
man fuck lupe he can spit but he is boring
n is just mad dat wack niggas make way more money than he’ll ever c n his doll life n dats da fuckin truth
Here comes another Charles Hamilton in the making. Make a track you like, drop it, if you don’t someone will leak it, and you’ll cry. And quit with the complaining, cause the label wants you to make certain tracks and the fans expect certain tracks from the label. Soo get to work champ.
God here we go another rapper bitching about the industry.I seen this movie before and i don’t like the ending. We all know what they do Lupe. Your situation is no different from anybody else.
Rappers know what they walk in to when they sign those contracts. But yet someone always complaining about it.Just drop some damn music and quit the bitching or QUIT shit!
