Macklemore Wrestles With Donald Trump’s Election On ‘Wednesday Morning’

Like many musicians, Macklemore was openly critical of Donald Trump in the lead-up to Election Day. And like many of those same musicians, he’s making his displeasure with the results known. On his new Soundcloud loosie “Wednesday Morning”, he asks himself the big question that a lot of folks have since a minority of American voters turned up in the right places to get Trump elected president: What now?

The “Thrift Shop” rapper attempts to answer that in a bit of a Kanye West-style auto-tune croon, which is ironic given the biggest news of the day. Like all things he does, it’s a bit of a mackle. But you can’t help but feel for him as he tries to figure out how he’s going to raise his newborn daughter in a Trump-led America.

Though Google searches and jokes seem to suggest that liberals first inclination after the election is to flee, on “Morning” Macklemore says that that’s the one thing he can’t do. Much in the same way that he did on the “FDT” remix, Macklemore claims that angry and disappointed liberals should stay and push back against a Trump administration.

“I’m not moving to Canada, not fleeing the nation, No time for apathy, no more tears and no complainin’,” he raps. “Gotta fight harder for the next four and what we’re faced with, Got my daughter in my arms and he is not gonna raise her.”
