Rising UK Grime Star Stormzy Secures A Major Label Record Deal

With the success of his Gang Signs & Prayer debut LP, UK grime MC Stormzy proved that he was ready to take the next step toward becoming the genre’s next big crossover star. Now, he’s cemented that status with a major label record deal that gives his own independent #Merky label a home.

On Saturday, January 20, Stormzy announced via Instagram that he’d signed a deal with Atlantic Records UK, writing, ” Beginning of a new chapter. Looking forward to delivering more music, more bodies of work and to start developing and working on new talent on the #MERKY roster. Let’s work. ❤️??”

According to Music Week, Atlantic UK president — who was also pictured with Stormzy and the gang in the Instagram announcement, Cook is “thrilled to join forces” with the rising star.

“We’ve been friends with Stormzy and Tobe (Onwuka, Stormzy’s manager) for a while now, it’s been exciting to see the extraordinary impact Stormzy’s music has had and the iconic figure he has become,” he said. “Together we’re going to take Stormzy global, and fill the #Merky roster with fresh new talent.”

He further elaborated that “Stormzy is that special talent, he’s an incredible artist and he has so much to offer the world with his music. It’s been a privilege to have had a ringside seat from the beginning of his explosive entry in the mainstream and I’m super excited about the next phase in our creative partnership with him and the brilliant #Merky team.”
