Vince Staples Is Stranded In Shark Infested Waters In The Video For His G-Funk Informed Single ‘Big Fish’

After teasing out it’s release on Twitter on Wednesday night with a very cryptic, “Why wait?” today Vince Staples shared a brand new single and video titled “Big Fish.” He also revealed in an interview with Zane Lowe that his next album Big Fish Theory will drop on June 23.

The world first got wind of Staples’s follow-up to his critically acclaimed double-disc album Summertime ’06, back in February just around the time he unleashed his incendiary single “Bagbak.” He used that song to highlight issues that disproportionately affect minority groups in America, rapping, “Prison system broken / Racial war commercin’ / Until the president get that, sh*t / Vincent won’t be votin’ / We need Tomika’s and Shaniqua’s in that Oval Office / Obama ain’t enough for me, we only getting started / The next Bill Gates can be on Section 8 up in the projects.”

Vince recently talked about the larger themes and ideas that went into his newest project in a recent interview with Complex. “It encompasses things: Being larger than life in a smaller world, so to say. How rappers are perceived and perceive themselves.” Adding, “We’re still large in our own right, even though we’re kind of in a smaller facilitative space. They’re still not even showing all the hip-hop awards on the Grammys, and things like that, but you still find these great personalities and these great success stories within the small pond that is our music.”
