199 days until Star Wars: Rey’s costume design totally stole elements from [REDACTED]

Even with the movie months out, parts of “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” have already become iconic. One of those parts is Rey”s costume as she jumps aboard a speeder and makes a getaway on Jakku.

While Rey”s outfit is definitely practical – goggles and face protection are necessary when going at high speeds in an unforgiving desert landscape – something about it should feel familiar to fans of the old Star Wars comics by Dark Horse. That tan cowl, those stylized shades. One might think JJ Abrams was paying homage to the most beloved character in the Expanded Universe…Mara Jade. The only thing Rey is missing is highly impractical black leather.

If you look at Rey”s entire outfit, she”s even sporting a version of Mara Jade”s belt. If it turns out Rey”s last name is Solo, one can easily imagine her pilfering the closet of her Alternate Timeline aunt before running away on an adventure.

The resemblance is even more uncanny in a side-by-side comparison.

So who snuck in this probable Easter Egg? Was it JJ Abrams? The costume designer? Some third party? If the opportunity ever arises, HitFix Harpy will be sure to ask!
