Andy Serkis: My ‘Jungle Book’ movie will be darker

Perhaps lost in the overwhelming success of Disney”s The Jungle Book (and the inevitable announcement of a sequel) is the fact that there”s another Jungle Book movie that”s just been filmed. But director Andy Serkis said people shouldn”t expect to see the same movie as the one that Jon Favreau just made.

“It's a PG-13, more a kind of Apes [Planet of the Apes] movie, a slightly darker take, closer to Rudyard Kipling”s,” Serkis told Vulture. “It”s great to scare kids in a safe environment because it”s an important part of development, and we all loved to be scared as kids, so we shouldn”t overly protect them.”

Jungle Book is Serkis” directorial debut, but don”t think the motion capture king would pass on being in front of the camera as well. He”ll play Baloo alongside Christian Bale, Cate Blanchett and Benedict Cumberbatch.

Andy Serkis” version of the Jungle Book is slated for a 2018 release.
