‘Aquaman’s Jason Momoa Confirms A Fan Theory About ‘Man Of Steel’

While speaking to DC All Access host Tiffany Smith about potential Easter eggs to be found in Justice League (reviewed here), Jason Momoa (Aquaman) instead revealed a long-rumored Easter egg in 2013’s Man of Steel. And no, he didn’t say Aquaman’s mom is named Martha.

A fan theory has been circulating since at least 2014 about the scene where Clark Kent (Henry Cavill) falls into the ocean after saving co-workers on a burning oil rig. Supposedly, these whales are being controlled by Aquaman to help Superman get back to shore:

It’s also worth noting that the oil rig had a Merrevale Oil company sign, which is a company that has run afoul of Aquaman in the comics. But is there any truth to that fan theory? Did those whales have anything to do with Aquaman? Perhaps surprisingly, Momoa says yes:

“In Man of Steel when Henry’s on the oil rig, he’s holding that up and then all of a sudden you see him up on the ocean, kind of floats up on the ocean. [Zack]’s like, I had [Aquaman] save him so that they’d get to cross paths at one point so when Bruce goes, ‘You ever heard of Aquaman?’, I have and we have crossed paths.”

Ben Affleck then corrected that dialogue as “You ever heard of Superman?” either because that was the line or because Momoa just spoiled a conversation between Batman and Superman after the return of Cavill’s character that’s been hinted at several times already. It wouldn’t be a surprise if Momoa was spoiling something. Aquaman does what he wants.
