‘Captain America: Civil War’ just became the biggest movie of 2016

Less than two weeks after opening in theaters across the globe, Captain America: Civil War has become the biggest movie of 2016. The Marvel movie”s Wednesday receipts pushed it to a worldwide box office total of $981.9 million, more than any other film has earned this year.

Civl War surpassed fellow Disney film Zootopia, which has earned $971 million since hitting theaters at the beginning of March. Currently at the No. 4 spot on the top-earning films at the 2016 worldwide box office is yet another Disney film, Jon Favreau”s The Jungle Book. Now at No. 3 is Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.

We”ll see whether Civil War continues to reign 2016 when Rogue One: A Star Wars Story comes along in December. What”s more certain is that Civil War will become the sixth superhero movie to gross more than $1 billion worldwide, the others being The Avengers, Avengers: Age of Ultron, Iron Man 3, The Dark Knight Rises, and The Dark Knight.
