While the “Michael Jackson vs. Madonna” showdown is legend, I remember at the time feeling like the duel between Jewel and Alanis Morissette was important. Maybe the “Alaska vs. Canada” element felt trenchant at the time? I don't know. I actually remember rooting for Jewel, which is such a funny childhood mistake. Clearly Alanis is the superior lyricist and performer.
