Cosplay Spotlight – Pirates of the Caribbean’s Jack Sparrow by AlysonTabbitha

Cosplay is the art of dressing up as one of your favorite fictional characters. It can be as simple or as complex as you want to make it. But some cosplayers go above and beyond! Every Tuesday, we feature one of these dedicated hobbyists, along with some information about their chosen cosplay.

This week the spotlight is on Alysontabbntha and her Captain Jack transformation.

What's your name?

My name is Alyson Tabbitha.

What made you want to cosplay as this?

I started making the costume after seeing the first “Pirates of the Caribbean” movie. I just automatically became totally obsessed with pirates and wanted to be one myself (specifically Jack).

How long did it take to create the costume?

I don't have an actual time frame because I made it over the course of a 6 or 7 years, so I can't remember. Basically I kept upgrading it every year for Halloween.

How much did it cost?

Although it took years to get it to the point I'm happy with, it probably cost less than $100. I make my accessories with clay and resin. The shirt vest and pants are from cheap patterns and fabric from Wal-Mart. The wig itself only cost me around $5 and was made from hair I got at the dollar store, and from my own hair trimmings with an old scarf used as a bandanna. My current sash was given to me by a good friend, DirteeJack. So it's nice to have a costume your proud of without pushing your budget. :)

Do you have favorite comic-con memory from this cosplay?

Every time I go out as Jack Sparrow I have so many fun memories. I think my favorites are when kids see me and actually think they've met their favorite pirate and are all shy and give me a hug, that's the best.
