CW head: ‘Supergirl’ will likely be our top-rated show

As Supergirl makes its way over to The CW for Season 2, one thing is clear – the network has sky-high expectations for the show.

CW head Mark Pedowitz discussed his excitement about the superhero series as it migrates from CBS to his network for the 2016-17 season, telling the Television Critics Association press tour that he expects it to be an instant hit.

“It will probably be our #1 or #2 show this season,” Pedowitz remarked.

That all being said, Pedowitz was realistic that the show will not pull numbers anywhere close to what it did on CBS. Season 1 of the series debuted at 13+ million viewers, but lagged as the year wore on. The finale closed out with just over 6 million viewers.

“There”s no question it probably will not do as well as it did on CBS, even at the end,” Pedowitz said.

He noted that it was an easy decision for his network, which is already home to superhero series Arrow and The Flash, to pick up Supergirl after it was clear CBS was ready to let it fly.

“When Supergirl became available, I couldn”t sign up fast enough for it,” Pedowitz added. “It fits.  It”s now very much in our DNA and we”re proud of it.”

Supergirl debuts on The CW on October 10 at 8 p.m. ET.
