The wait is over: Dave Grohl and Zac Brown Band to release new EP

At last weekend’s American Music Awards, HitFix confirmed that Dave Grohl has produced Zac Brown Band’s new songs; today, the official collaboration has been announced as an EP entitled “The Grohl Sessions Vol. 1.” Watch the behind-the-scenes video about the making of the EP below.

Grohl played drums on the four-track release, which was recorded last month at Nashville”s Southern Ground Studios, and will be released via Zac Brown Band’s Southern Ground Artists label on Dec. 10.

Tracks include “Day of the Dead,” which ZBB and Grohl performed at the Country Music Awards, “All Alright,” “Let It Rain,” and The Wood Brothers’ cover “The Muse.” Grohl recorded the band live and tracked it to analog tape.

Brown has said that he always wanted to work with Grohl, but the Foo Fighters frontman told HitFix he didn’t know the country/folk band’s music until he started recording them

Based on the behind-the-scenes interviews, it seems like the guys seriously bonded during the sessions. “We just challenge each other to be more and more bad ass,” Grohl said. ZBB frontman Zac Brown gushed: “Dave is a musical genius.”

Expect a “The Grohl Sessions Vol. 2” to follow next year, plus physical releases and a making-of documentary.
