Bummer news: ‘Powerless’ just lost half the reason I was looking forward to this show

Powerless will have to find another showrunner to give the power.

Series creator Ben Queen has departed his NBC comedy set to premiere midseason, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Set in the world of DC Comics, the freshman workplace comedy was set to begin production at the end of this month, but that start date has been postponed while Warner Bros. Television and NBC find a new showrunner.

Sources tell THR that Queen decided to depart Powerless due to creative differences with NBC and WBTV, in what is reportedly a mutual decision between Queen, network, and production company.

This is bummer news to me – Queen is a solid part of the reason I was looking forward to Powerless. I really enjoyed Queen”s canceled-too-soon A to Z and was looking forward to seeing that show”s particular sweet and funny sensibility transferred to the realm of superheroes.

Still on board Powerless are stars Vanessa Hudgens, Alan Tudyk, and Danny Pudi, whose characters all work at an insurance adjuster firm, specializing in regular-people coverage against damage caused by the crime-fighting superheroes.
