Disney’s next princess — Moana — finds her voice and her official look

It feels like Disney fans have been waiting for Moana forever. First announced back in 2014 in the wake of “Frozen,” a handful of rough concept sketches and the “Moana” title card were released. Interest spiked immediately. From those tiny morsels, a healthy, fandom emerged to create reams of fan art.

While the animated film about this Polynesian princess is still over a year away, the drought of visuals is finally over. Today Disney announced the voice of Moana and accompanied the reveal with the official look for the character.

Fourteen year old newcomer Auli'i Cravalho won the coveted role after an agent discovered her singing talent during a charity competition, according to People Magazine.

The first official look at Moana will seem familiar to anyone who attended this year”s D23 Expo. During the presentation for their upcoming slate of animated films, this version of the character was shown off…albeit as “concept art.” However, this is our first look at Dwayne Johnson”s demigod character of Maui and the reveal of the texture of the world they will inhabit.

“Moana” hits theaters on November 23, 2016.
