‘Divergent’: First footage to debut at San Diego Comic-Con

Get ready to geek out, “Divergent” fans.

The film adaptation of Veronica Roth’s young-adult novel is coming to San Diego Comic-Con, and first footage from the sci-fi effort will be showcased during a Hall H panel featuring stars Shailene Woodley, Theo James, Miles Teller, Maggie Q, Ansel Elgort, Mekhi Phifer, Ben Lamb, Ben Lloyd-Hughes and Christian Madsen as well as Roth and director Neil Burger. The panel is set to take place on Thursday, July 18.

In addition, “exclusive premium promotional items” will be given out to fans who visit the “Divergent” booth located on the convention floor, where cast members will also be signing autographs.

“Divergent” takes place in a near-future world in which the human population is divided into several factions based on personality. The story centers on Tris Prior (Woodley), a teenage girl deemed a “divergent,” meaning she does not fit neatly into any one faction. After discovering a plot to destroy all “divergents,” she goes on a quest to find out why.
