From the return of “Sailor Moon” to the comic “Zodiac Starforce,” female friends teaming up to take out evil is trickling back into pop culture. Even aspects of “My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic” pull from the trope. But there hasn”t really been a TRUE Magical Girl cartoon for the next generation.
Saban Brands (“Power Rangers,” “Dragon Ball Z”) and Netflix have teamed up to changed that with a brand new series, “Glitter Force.” Based on the trailer alone, “Glitter Force” has that old after-school cartoon feel that Millennials grew up with. WARNING: Watching this will give you nostalgia.
In typical Magical Girl fashion, five preteen girls learn they are a legendary superhero squad known as the Glitter Force. They must transform from ordinary girls into superheroes to defend Earth from evil fairytale villains. Each team member has a colorful personality that reflects their super abilities.
