‘Game of Thrones’ makes television history at the 67th Annual Emmys

When “Game of Thrones” entered the Emmys arena tonight, they were poised to make television history. One win during the ceremony would tie the HBO show with “The West Wing” for the most Emmys won in a single year at eight. Two wins and “Game of Thrones” would take the crown.

Which they handily did. Congratulations to everyone who worked on “Game of Thrones” this year to make it the most decorated season of television in Emmys history! 

Prior to the Primetime Emmys, the HBO drama had won eight statues during the Creative Emmys.

• Outstanding Make-Up for a Single-Camera Series (Non-Prosthetic) (“Mother”s Mercy”)
• Outstanding Single-Camera Picture Editing for a Drama Series (“The Dance of Dragons”)
• Outstanding Production Design for a Narrative Contemporary or Fantasy Program (One Hour or More) (“High Sparrow,” “Unbowed, Unbent, Unbroken” “Hardhome”) 
• Outstanding Sound Editing for a Series (“Hardhome”)
• Outstanding Sound Mixing for a Scripted Series (“Hardhome”)
• Outstanding Special Visual Effects (“The Dance of Dragons”) 
• Outstanding Stunt Coordination for a Drama Series 
• Outstanding Casting for a Drama Series

As the drama portion of the Emmys began on Sunday night, “Game of Thrones” tied with “The West Wing” when David Benioff and D.B. Weiss won for Outstanding Writing for a Drama Series. David Nutter”s win for Outstanding Directing for a Drama Series with “Game of Thrones” episode “Mother”s Mercy” clinched the title.

“Game of Thrones” now holds the record! But the night isn”t over yet.

As of this writing, Peter Dinklage has won for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama for his turn as Tyrion Lannister. Just how many Emmys will George R.R. Martin”s universe take home tonight? Stay tuned to find out! 

[UPDATE 10:57PM EDT] – “Game of Thrones” has won Outstanding Drama series, putting the final tally for 2015 at 12 wins out of 24 nominations!
