Are you over your “Age of Ultron” hangover? Well, get excited True Believers because filming is already well underway on Marvel's “Captain America: Civil War.” The sequel has becoming highly anticipated not just because its following up one of one of the studio's most critically acclaimed productions, “Captain America: Winter Soldier,” but because it may end up being an unintentional mini-“Avengers” movie.
Since it was announced late last year, “Civil War” has been pitched as a Steve Rogers vs. Tony Stark (Robert Downey, Jr.) endeavor and a press release from the production specifically noted that Avengers such as the Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson), the Vision (Paul Bettany), Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner), the Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olsen) and War Machine (Don Cheadle) would appear in the film. That's a lot of Earth's Mightiest Heroes for a “Captain America” movie so no one would have assumed the lack of Thor or the Hulk was an issue until Bruce Banner himself, Mark Ruffalo, tweeted out the movie's logo last month. That means Ruffalo's joining the party, right? (Right?)
Frankly, the bigger story has been if Marvel and Sony Pictures can agree on an actor to play Spider-Man (he is scheduled for a cameo in the Russo brothers directed sequel), but Marvel fans are still wondering if their favorite gamma-powered hero is going to take part. The always affable and honest Ruffalo spoke about his “Civil War” status during an interview with HitFix this morning for his new indie “Infinitely Polar Bear” (read the review). The two-time Oscar nominee is putting his faith in co-star Downey, Jr.'s hands that he'll eventually have a role, but he's beginning to wonder when he's actually heading to set.
“If Robert Downey, Jr. says I'm in 'Captain America,' I'm in 'Captain America' dammit,” Ruffalo says laughing. “And I will wait for the day that my call sheet shows up at my doorstep or my script. At this point, I'm told that I'm in it by Robert, which I'll take as biblical, but I just haven't heard or seen from production yet.”
