Ridley Scott’s highly-anticipated “Alien” prequel “Prometheus” is finally in theaters allover the world, and you’ve no doubt already seen it and probably have a number of lingering questions about the film.
Now, see what the stars — Michael Fassbender, Charlize Theron, Guy Pearce and Noomi Rapace — had to say about working on the film and dealing with its lofty (sometimes unanswered) questions in these recent interviews.
Keep in mind that all of these interviews, conducted by HitFix’s Dan Fienberg, were taped before the film’s release, so there are very few spoilers contained herein.
In the first clip (above), Charlize Theron (Vickers) and Guy Pearce (Weyland) discuss the film’s immense scale, Scott’s underrated abilities as an actors’ director, and the difficulties of playing ambiguous characters in the film. Theron asks several rhetorical questions, including “Am I an android?”
Next, Michael Fassbender (David) and Noomi Rapace (Elizabeth Shaw) discuss their roles with a welcomed dash of humor. The former talks about the impact of Peter O’Toole in “Lawrence of Arabia” on both himself and on his character. Rapace discusses Sigourney Weaver’s iconic “Ripley” role, and her character’s spiritual inspirations. Plus, a certain legendary Chevy Chase role gets name-dropped.
Finally, co-writer Damon Lindelof talks about turning Jon Spaihts’ original script from a more traditional “Alien” prequel into what became “Prometheus.” He also acknowledges that they planned from the get-go to make it a new series, and that, like “Lost,” they may have asked too many questions that haven’t yet been answered — or may never really get answered.
“Prometheus” also stars Idris Elba, Logan Marshall-Green and Rafe Spall.
