Scrat goes to space in the new ‘Ice Age: Collision Course’ trailer

So many space movies lately! “Star Wars: The Force Awakens,” “Star Trek Beyond,” “The Martian,” “Independence Day” (kinda), and now … “Ice Age.”

Yes, the fifth movie in the franchise is going to leave the planet for a bit, according to the new trailer, which shows Scrat managing to accidentally activate a spaceship while trying to bury his acorn. It seems that “Ice Age” is going the History Channel “Ancient Aliens” route in its interpretation of the Earth's history. Scrat then basically creates our solar system and sends an asteroid hurtling towards Earth, where Manny, Sid, and Diego are watching the show.

If you feel like you've seen all of this before, then you probably saw the Scrat short, “Cosmic Scrat-tastrophe” before “The Peanuts Movie,” because it's all the same footage and story. A little disappointing; I was hoping for an appearance of Neil deGrasse Tyson's character.

“Ice Age: Collision Course” comes out July 22, 2016.
