The ‘Star Wars’ Tribute To Carrie Fisher Contained An Episode VIII Easter Egg: A First Look At General Leia

Star Wars Celebration Orlando 2017 is in full swing. The 40th anniversary of a galaxy far, far away kicked off with a panel dedicated to the last four decades of Star Wars and featured cast members such as Mark Hamill and Harrison Ford, as well as creator George Lucas and current Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy. But one face was missing from the reunion: Carrie Fisher. Fisher passed away unexpectedly in December of 2016 and her absence was felt by all.

To pay tribute to Fisher’s lasting legacy, Lucasfilm put together a tribute video that captured a tiny bit of Carrie Fisher’s fiery personality. The memorial featured behind-the-scenes footage throughout the years as well as interview highlights from Fisher’s decades as Princess Leia. Then, with no fanfare whatsoever, fans go their first glimpse of General Leia from the upcoming film Star Wars: The Last Jedi.

Wedged between high-fiving J.J. Abrams and Oscar Isaac singing her praises was footage of Fisher walking with The Last Jedi director Rian Johnson. There’s not much too it, not even a hint as to what scene she was filming, but just seeing Leia’s trademarked complex hair and subdued (perhaps New Republic) robes is enough in and of itself.

RIP, General. But know your legacy lives on.
