‘Suicide Squad’ soundtrack opens atop Billboard 200

The movie Suicide Squad and its soundtrack (Suicide Squad: The Album) have two things in common: they both received mixed reviews and now they”ve both opened at #1.

The music of the anti-superhero flick is atop the Billboard 200 chart, selling 182,000 equivalent album units for the week ending August 11. These are the best numbers for a soundtrack since the Fifty Shades of Grey album came out in February 2015.

Suicide Squad“s album features songs by Skrillex and Rick Ross, Eminem, Panic! at the Disco and Grace among the 14-total titles.

Reviews of the soundtrack have been as disparate as those of the movie. Entertainment Weekly gave the album a “B” calling it an “eclectic, somewhat disjointed wild ride.” Vulture, on the other hand, called it a “neon nightmare” noting it can”t decide what it wants to be.

Whether the soundtrack has the same staying power (or lack thereof) the movie has, well, we”ll just need to wait a week to find out.
