The Band Perry and Alicia Keys connection: Old performance inspired a Grammy win

LOS ANGELES – The Band Perry were already at work on their third studio album. A Grammys win though? More wind in their sails.

The trio spoke backstage at the 2015 Grammy Awards after earning the honor for Best Country Duo/Group Performance off of their song “Gentle on My Mind.”

“We've been nominated three times,” Kimberly Perry said of their first win, mentioning that just earning nods is “life-changing.”

She said that watching Alicia Keys perform on the awards show almost a decade ago was a big turning point for her. “I turned to the boys, and said 'We just gotta find a way to get there.'”

“This isn't just a win for the three of us,” Reid Perry said. He said the honor was for the whole touring and recording crew, a testament of “enjoying what we do.”

The band spoke more on their “momentum” from the win, which “gives us an extra burst of energy” as they split their time recording in Los Angeles, New York and Nashville.
