‘The Grudge’ horror franchise being rebooted

Some people just can't let go of a grudge.

Ghost House Pictures and Good Universe have announced plans to reboot “The Grudge” horror film franchise.

The 2004 film starred Sarah Michelle Gellar and was directed by Takashi Shimazu, who also helmed the 2002 Japanese original “Ju-On: The Grudge.”

In the film, an American nurse living in Tokyo (Gellar) is haunted by a powerful curse fueled by the rage of the dying.

The U.S. version cost just $10 million to produce and grossed some $187 million worldwide. It was followed by a less successful sequel in 2006.

Jeff Buhler (“Midnight Meat Train”) is onboard to write the reboot, according to Deadline. Plot details have yet to be revealed.

Sam Raimi, Rob Tapert and Taka Ichise will produce, alongside exec producers Roy Lee, Doug Davison, Joe Drake and Nathan Kahane.
