The Most Disturbing Scene In ‘The Walking Dead’ History Isn’t Out Of The Question

Maybe it’s not Carl we have to worry about, after all.

Some truly despicable things have happened on The Walking Dead, from cannibals eating poor Bob’s leg to Lori dying during childbirth to Negan bashing Glenn and Abraham’s brains in with a baseball bat. But there are certain lines that will never be crossed, like murdering babies, right? Right…?

In the penultimate episode of the first half of season seven (it’s a little confusing), the return-to-form “Sing Me a Song,” Negan takes a tour of Rick’s house in Alexandria, where he discovers Judith’s nursery. The episode ends with a cliffhanger, of sorts: Negan waiting for Rick to return home while affectionally holding Judith. (Fun fact: The Walking Dead Wiki has an entire section on “the victims Judith has killed” — her mother — because no one is free from sin on this show. Except maybe Ezekiel’s lion.) To quote Jeffrey Dean Morgan, “It’s creepy, man. It’s creepy.” It sure is, but could it also mean more unspeakably bad news for the Grimes family in next Sunday’s episode?

“He could do anything with Judith,” executive producer Gale Anne Hurd said on the post-show Talking Dead. “He could kill her. He could not. He could show a tender side that’s gonna throw even more people off balance.” Chances are that Negan won’t hurt Judith — he can use her to keep Rick under his thumb, and he doesn’t kill women and children, although that’s not an ironclad rule — but that hasn’t stopped viewers from freaking out.

That’s a better prediction: Negan, go kill Spencer.
