War breaks out in newest ‘Dawn of the Planet of the Apes’ trailer

2012's “Rise of the Planet of the Apes” re-introduced you to the super-intelligent simians, and now the newest trailer for the upcoming sequel “Dawn of the Planet of the Apes” will prepare you for war.

Ten years after a virus has nearly wiped out humanity (as seen at the end of the first film), the apes, led by the brainy Caesar (Andy Serkis), just want to be left alone in the forest. The few remaining humans fight to survive in a desolate, overgrown San Francisco. When contact is re-established, Jason Clarke (“Zero Dark Thirty”) and Gary Oldman (the “Dark Knight” trilogy) both have very different ideas about co-existence.

War — and jaw-dropping motion-capture effects — are inevitable.

The sequel also stars Keri Russell, Kodi Smit-McPhee and Judy Greer. James Franco isn't returning, but he makes a quick video cameo in the trailer.

Director Matt Reeves (“Cloverfield”) has already signed on to helm a third film in the rebooted franchise.

“Dawn of the planet of the Apes” opens July 11.
