Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum did their press in full cop costume last week in New York, but “21 Jump Street” is like the anti-cop movie. The two actors warned that you shouldn’t be nearby when they draw a gun.
“It’s not my forte,” Hill warned.
It’s also the anti-remake, where the viewer doesn’t have to have any knowledge of the ’80s television series. “it’s a good title, but you could take it off, put something else in,” Tatum said.
The script was all about turning ideas on their ears, and about high school has changed so much in that generation since the Johnny Depp-starring show.
“Stuff that made you nerdy 10 years ago makes you popular now,” Tatum explained. “I think it’s a great vehicle for a movie… In high school, I was on the football team, and I loved video games and Dungeons & Dragons.”
It’s certainly a change for Tatum, who was everywhere with romance “The Vow,” which blistered the box office with big numbers.
“you dont work any less heard on movies that are successful than… ones that are unsuccessful,” he said about working on that film. “You never know what’s going to be successful, you just gotta do thing that you love.”
