Watch: ‘The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo’ meets ‘The Muppets’ in new trailer

The smart, sophisticated, but still family-friendly Muppet crew may not have much in common with ex-Nazis, serial killers and revenge-driven punk rock girls, but the hilarious new trailer for the upcoming “The Muppets” has a field day spoofing the hyperkinetic trailer for David Fincher’s Americanized remake of “The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo.”

In the short clip, we catch glimpses of the action, including some big production numbers, and stars Kermit, Piggy, Jason Segel and Amy Adams, intercut with amusing commentary typed in the broken “Dragon” font. There’s no “Immigrant Song” by Trent Reznor and Karen O., but there is a funny, hard-driving Muppets-centric electro song in its place (probably by “Flight of the Conchords'” Brett McKenzie, who wrote songs for the film).

Like the “Dragon” clip, there’s no dialogue and shots flash by so fast that it’s hard to tell what you’re looking at sometimes (is Chris Cooper singing??), but the tone is pitch-perfect, as is the self-reflexive self-promotion for the soundtrack tie-in. You can even see quick shots of cameo stars like Sarah Silverman and Neil Patrick Harris.

Segel co-wrote the film with director Nick Stoller (“Forgetting Sarah Marshall”).

Here’s a new poster for the film. Look familiar?

“The Muppets” opens nationwide on Thanksgiving. “The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo” opens nationwide on Christmas. Happy holidays!
